Behind the Schoolbag 觀照 by Intoxic Studio

“Behind the Schoolbag” is a story about self-salvation. Having suffered from a miserable childhood, Shaun couldn’t help but question his own value. Human relationship has always been Shaun’s barrier, sometimes, he wishes he could stay alone, but in reality, Shaun has to re-enter the society. Staying in his own comfort zone, Shaun can do nothing but lock up his heart and distant himself from others.
All the stress and pressure in modern life is driving people insane. We have to learn how to sooth our own emotions so as to survive. We can do nothing but meditate and reflect upon ourselves. We can observe the truth and the essence wisely and feel the presence of now and start living.

Field of Vision – The Black Belt by Field Of Vision

In 2015, the state of Alabama closed 31 DMVs across the state. Many of these closures occurred in the Black Belt, a predominantly African-American region, directly impacting voter enfranchisement in a state that requires photo IDs at the polls.

Joe by Andy Maser

Joe Riis has the job that every child in the world dreams of: He is a celebrated National Geographic wildlife photographer. He spends his life embarking on adventures to the wildest places on Earth, often for months on end, to observe and photograph animals for National Geographic Magazine. He seemingly has the picture perfect life. Or does he?

This film tells a more personal story of an oft idolized character to remind that even those who have achieved it all still face many of the struggles that everyone else does. It also celebrates how a man’s love for the wilderness has helped to further curiosity, respect and protection for the natural world around us.

Hala by Minhal Baig

A Muslim American teenager struggles to reconcile desire with family obligations. Hala is a proof-of-concept for a feature-length film that explores coming-of-age as a Muslim American.

From Yasmeen Gharnit’s review of Hala on NYLON.com:

„The new short film, written and directed by Minhal Baig, follows a 16-year-old Muslim teenager Hala (Tess Granfield) as she attempts to explore her sexuality and identity while growing up in a conservative, religious household. The film starkly opens as we see Hala masturbate, only to be interrupted by her mother asking why she missed suhoor, a pre-dawn meal eaten while fasting during Ramadan. Then, while skateboarding at a park, she meets Jesse (Jasper Newman), and the two share an immediate connection. While she embarks on a relationship with him, she sees her parents’ relationship disintegrate as they argue about religious guidelines and the way they raise Hala. Eventually, it becomes impossible for Hala to exist between her two separate “lives.” In 14 minutes, the film somehow captures more than the aforementioned feature films do in their entirety.“

The Peter Principle: the scientific reason everything is a bit s**t by Delve

We live in times of seemingly unending progress – and yet somehow things still always go wrong: trains are late, broadband speeds suck and the promotion always goes to the wrong person. Well, it turns out there’s an explanation for all this – and progress itself is the problem. Meet The Peter Principle.

Hello Tokyo by Christoph Gelep

This film was shot during a 5 day trip to Tokyo in January 2016.

It was my first time visiting Japan, a place I had always wanted to see. With a population of 35 million, Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world. Due to this, I soon realised how lively and energetic this city really is.

I decided to take my camera and explore this fascinating city so rich in culture, tradition and innovation.

Equipment and Software used:

Canon 5D Mark III
Tamron 24-70 F/2.8 Di VC
Samyang 14mm T3.1
Edelkrone Slider & Action Module
