MAR by Finisterre

Daylight wanes as sky becomes heavy. Isobars compress and warp; cross-sectioned onions on the nightly news. The coast awakens, transformed from the doldrums of summer. Warmth; a flickering memory, like those drawn upon for favourable conditions at half-forgotten spots. The ocean roars, resuming it’s age-old attack on the coastline in a relentless barrage of storm fronts. And so the hunt begins, chasing the nooks hidden from wind and seas. Schedule revolves around brief opportunities, better described as optimistic hunches. A goading carrot dangled, and ever so occasionally within reach.

Winter chasing shapes on the fringes of the North Atlantic. A collections of moments captured along the way. Mar.

Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter by Amplify Releasing

http://ift.tt/22Dtjrc

In this darkly comedic odyssey, Academy Award nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel, Pacific Rim) stars as Kumiko, a frustrated Office Lady whose imagination transcends the confines of her mundane life. Kumiko becomes obsessed with a mysterious, battered VHS tape of a popular film she’s mistaken for a documentary, fixating on a scene where a suitcase of stolen cash is buried in the desolate, frozen landscape of North Dakota. Believing this treasure to be real, she leaves behind Tokyo and her beloved rabbit Bunzo to recover it – and finds herself on a dangerous adventure unlike anything she’s seen in the movies.

A story of four young boys from the projects. Most New Yorkers who ride the subway have opinions about them, but what lies beneath these young performers is more than what meets the eye.

OneBeat Istanbul by Studiocanoe

I work as the filmmaker for Found Sound Nation, a Brooklyn based collective of musicians and artists who use music as a tool to help build strong, just, healthy communities. This is a short film about one of our projects; OneBeat Istanbul.

In the spring of 2016 we worked with a group of Kurdish, Syrian and Turkish musicians in the city of Istanbul. Based out of a decommissioned energy plant in the centre of the city and over the course of 2 weeks, we organised public street studios, music workshops with youth groups, we worked with institutions helping blind children and those fleeing conflict, and recorded new music in a variety of spaces around the city; all culminating in a final showcase.

This film is a short document of the work that we did, the music we shared; the sounds of the city and of those involved in the program.

OneBeat grew out of a notion that musical collaboration is a uniquely powerful way to connect people across political and cultural barriers, which can in turn cultivate an international network of sound makers who can make a powerful impact on their local and global communities.
