Снимки были сделаны марсоходом Кьюриосити с помощью телеобъектива, три кадра в течение трех секунд. „На сегодняшний день это наиболее подробное изображение прохождения большего спутника Марса по диску Солнца – говорится в заявлении Марка Леммона из университета Техаса A&M.
Зафиксировать кольцевое солнечное затмение с участием Фобоса тем более интересно, что движение этого спутника по небу Марса очень необычно: Фобос восходит на западе, заходит на востоке и успевает сделать это за марсианские сутки не менее, чем два раза. Видимый диаметр Фобоса для наблюдателя на Марсе всего в три раза меньше диаметра Луны для землян, но его форма заметно отличается от сферической, что хорошо видно на этих снимках. / Solar Eclipse on Mars. What happens when a star runs out of nuclear fuel? For stars about the mass of our Sun, the center condenses into a white dwarf while the outer atmospheric layers are expelled into space and appear as a planetary nebula. This particular planetary nebula, pictured above and designated Shapley 1 after the famous astronomer Harlow Shapley, has a very apparent annular ring like structure. Although some of these nebulas appear like planets on the sky (hence their name), they actually surround stars far outside our Solar System.

Avusturalya‘ nın üzerinde güney ufuklarında kızıl perdeler bu müthiş görselde yakalanmış. Elbetteki gök yüzünde bu harika kızıllığın yanı sıra, sürekli var olan mücevherlerde var. Tıpkı samanyolu, alfa ve beta centairus gibi. Ayrıca görselde galaksimizin uyduları büyük ve küçük macellan bulutlarıda yer almış.
