Happy summer solstice 2015 – and, if you’re in the northern hemisphere, Happy winter solstice!… The longest (and for those up north, the shortest) day of the year, as the Sun enters Capricorn. What a unique time, which is why this time of year has been celebrated for thousands of years. It is a time when the sun’s arc seems neither to grow nor to diminish for three days.
As the Sun enters Capricorn, it’s a wonderful time to enjoy being practical and down-to-earth, especially about the way you prepare for holidays and festivals, as celebrations seem to speed up activities, as you become busier, and undertake visits and trips.
Today, we’ll also see Mercury square (at a 90-degree angle to) Uranus build up, which could bring misunderstandings, travel delays and just plain-old mix-ups, so beware, especially Aries, Sagittarians and Capricorns. Aim to tune into the Venus-Chiron trine (120-degree angle), that will bring mellow, healing vibes your way, if you let it. Have a great day ❤️ 🌝 ❤ ️Photo from the Space Station, #NASA.#solstice2015 #patsybennett by astroparty

Peculiar galaxies of Arp 273.
These galaxies are located about 300 million light years away. The strange appearance is due to gravitational tides as the pair engage in close encounters. The center of these galaxies are separated by 100,000 light years.
These type of galaxies are actually very common in the universe. For example, our own galaxy is on a collision course with the Andromeda galaxy.

The Hubble Space Telescope checks out globular cluster Terzan 1, a home for old stars. Lying around 20,000 light-years from us in the constellation of Scorpius (The Scorpion), it is one of about 150 globular clusters belonging to our galaxy, the Milky Way.
Typical globular clusters are collections of around a hundred thousand stars, held together by their mutual gravitational attraction in a spherical shape a few hundred light-years across. They contain some of the oldest stars in a galaxy, hence the reddish colors of the stars in this image — the bright blue ones are foreground stars, not part of the cluster. The ages of the stars in the globular cluster tell us that they were formed during the early stages of galaxy formation! Studying them can also help us to understand how galaxies formed.
