ATARAXIA by vandyfilms

ATARAXIA is a short film that was born after a discussion with a good friend, Rudi. Rudi is a runner, he loves the great outdoors and running long distances. He also holds a PhD in linguistics and once talked about „ataraxia“, this incredible state of freedom that he sometimes reaches during long alpine outings. This film is about understanding that feeling.

Μy last trip to Norway during February, 2017.
The Lofoten Archipelago is spread on the northwest side of Norway, very close to the borders of the Arctic Circle. It is a cluster of small fishing villages and is often called “the Foot of the lynx” because of its shape.
The islands are full of legends, maybe because of their natural beauty and their mysterious landscapes, or maybe because there the Sun either never rises or never sets. The only thing you can hear is the thousand voices of birds, the wind and the sound of the sea. That combination of the landscape which comes into view every morning and the sounds of nature is a priceless experience that fills you with energy and inspiration for the whole day, no matter what you have to face.

REI Presents: Brothers of Climbing by REI

How can you be what you can’t see? Mikhail Martin, co-founder of Brothers of Climbing said, “I literally typed, ‘Are there black climbers?’ in Google … someone said, ‘black people don’t climb.’”

A small group of climbers began to challenge that thought. The Brothers of Climbing is a crew that’s making the climbing community more welcoming. Watch to see how they created a community where one wasn’t.

Daniel Arnold – Odds and Ends by Pinery Films

Brooklyn-based filmmakers Mika Altskan and Matvey Fiks follow street photographer Daniel Arnold over three days and across the five boroughs as the photographer homes in on his subjects—teenagers lifting weights in an alleyway, grandmothers gossiping on a boardwalk bench, a father who pantomimes throwing his son in a trash can—depicting the diverse, chaotic energy of the city, and Arnold’s method of capturing the moments that can slip past others in all of their humanity-revealing glory.
