Rock Band by Neil Mendoza
The rock band is composed of electromechanical instruments that make music with rocks by throwing them through the air, slapping them and making them vibrate. The song that they’re playing, Here Comes the Sun, is biographical, describing the daily experience of a rock sitting on the ground. The rock band is made up of the following members…
Pinger – fires small rocks at aluminium keys using solenoids.
Spinner – launches magnetic rocks, Hematite, at pieces of marble. Rocks are launched by spinning magnets using Applied Motion http://ift.tt/1mFcS8E stepper motors.
Slapper – slaps rocks with fake leather.
Buzzer – vibrates the plunger of a solenoid against a piece of marble.
The whole project is controlled by a computer running a MIDI player written in openFrameworks talking to a Teensy. The machines were designed using Autodesk Fusion 360 and Autodesk Inventor.
Instructions on how to build your very own Pinger are here – http://ift.tt/2mpsGm3
This project was created as part of Autodesk’s awesome artist in residence program – www.autodesk.com/air

GOODSHIP – Sessions Vol. 1 by J. AUSTIN WILSON
Ishmael Butler of Shabazz Palaces and Seattle surf/punk rockers Tacocat, collaborated on some new music during a weekend of heightened creative expression. The historic and haunted Tokeland Hotel on the southwest coast of WA was transformed into a recording studio by music producer Erik Blood, and the musicians were free to get stoned and jam. The Goodship Company, a cannabis edibles brand, spearheaded the project and this short documentary reveals a behind-the-scenes look at the highest of artistic inspiration under the effects of legal marijuana.

Introducing CHANTELLE LEVENE
THE TIME TRAVELERS. by gnarly bay
In January 2017, the USA Men’s Rafting Team set their sights on making history by attempting to break a legendary speed record down 277 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Their goal was 34 hours. 34 hours…straight.
Throughout 2016, we sporadically followed these scrappy, determined guys on their quest…training hard, designing their custom boat, and gaining perspective on what it means to attempt something extraordinary on one of the world’s most breathtaking stages.
The film is a collaboration with Forest Woodward and Brendan Leonard….and would not have been possible without their important contributions of images, words, guidance, energy, feedback, and Yelp-worthy restaurant knowledge.
The film was supported by Chacos Footwear in association with REI + YETI + NRS + Jack’s Plastic Welding + Cataract Oars.

Ice, driftwood, foamy waves and … skateboards? Four skaters head north to the cold Norwegian coast, applying their urban skills to a wild canvas of beach flotsam, frozen sand and pastel skies. The result is a beautiful mashup — biting winds and short days, ollies and one ephemeral miniramp.
