@Regrann from @science: Originally observed by Chinese astronomers in AD 1054, the Crab Nebula is a pulsar wind nebula that can be found in the constellation of Taurus. Why is it called the Crab Nebula, you ask? Apparently, in 1840, William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse (so FANCY), observed it through a telescope and attempted to draw it. Whatever ended up on that paper looked a whole lot like a crab, so the name stuck. At the nebula’s center sits the Crab Pulsar, which is a neutron star and the remnants of supernova SN 1054.
