NGC 3190 is a spiral galaxy located about 80 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Leo, the lion. The galaxy, spanning almost 75,000 light-years across, is the largest member of a compact group of galaxies called the Hickson 44 group, which is one of the closest to our own Local Group and contains NGC 3193, NGC 3187 and NGC 3185. The image above shows a bright nucleus contoured by prominent dust lanes that have been probably distorted due to tidal interactions with other members of the Hickson group. The galaxy has witnessed 2 supernovae events back in 2002: SN 2002bo in March followed by SN 2002cv 2 months later.
